Human Development Foundation (HDF) is a company limited by guarantee and licensed under Section 26 of the Companies Act, 1913. It was registered as a non-profit social welfare organization, by the Registrar of the Joint Stock Companies of Bangladesh on 29th November 1993. From the very beginning of its journey, HDF is working with an endeavor to promote welfare of the poor and provide assistance for the distressed through social welfare steps, especially in the field of education. The core programme of the Foundation is Talent Assistance Scheme (TAS), a brainchild of late Alamgir M.A. Kabir, the founder chairman of the Foundation. TAS is directed with the aim of providing financial support in the form of interest-free loan to financially disadvantaged but meritorious students, mostly from rural areas. Every year 60 students, 30 girls and 30 boys, from the level of HSC first year are offered the award of interest-free loan. The assistance continues till the completion of their graduation/post graduation degree without any break. The members are also provided with donations for books and dresses. Another major programme of the Foundation is Rural School Library Enrichment Programme (RUSLEP). The goal of the project is to build up libraries in rural schools with a good stock of suitable books, other than the prescribed text books; and to expose the students to the domain of education and enlightenment in which they are considerably disadvantaged compared to their fellow students of urban background. HDF is also implementing projects in various sectors through partner organizations in different parts of the country.
An Orientation Programme for the newly enrolled members of TAS Batch-2022 was organized on 25-26 April 2024 at Padakhep Institute of Development & Management, Adabor, Dhaka. 27 selected students (14 boys & 13 girls) participated in the programme. Chairperson of the Foundation, Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum graced the programme as the Chief Guest. Mr. Tasnim Hassan Hai, Executive Director of the Foundation presided over the programme. Hon’ble Member of the General Body, Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, and several passed-out members of TAS also attended the programme.
The 29th Annual General Meeting of the Human Development Foundation was held at 12.00 noon on 20th April, 2024 in the office of the Foundation at Flat- 9/C, Rupayan Shelford, 23/6 Bir Uttam ANM Nuruzzaman Road, Shyamoli, Dhaka-1207.
Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum, Chairperson of the Foundation, former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Business, Agriculture & Technology (IUBAT), and ex-Professor at the Department of Psychology, Dhaka University presided over the meeting. Notable attendees included Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid, former Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and Chairman of NBR; Prof. Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman, Pro-VC at IUBAT and Honorary Professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology, University of Dhaka; Ms. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA); Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju, Professor and Head of the Department of Media & Communications at Independent University, Dhaka, and Honorary Treasurer of HDF; Dr. Abdul Khaleque, Professor at the Department of Biochemistry & Microbiology, North South University, Dhaka; and Ms. Rasheda K. Chowdhury, President of Women for Women. Mr.Tasnim Hassan Hai, the Executive Director of the Foundation was also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Annual Report of the Foundation for the calendar year 2022-23 , the Audited Accounts of the Foundation for the year ended 30th June,2023 , and the Annual Budget for the period of July, 2023 – June, 2024, were all unanimously approved.
গত ২১ জানুয়ারি ২০২৩ তারিখে অনুষ্ঠিত বার্ষিক সাধারণ সভায় আগামী দুই বছরের জন্য হিউম্যান ডেভেলপমেন্ট ফাউন্ডেশন এর নতুন গভর্নিং বোর্ড গঠিত হয়েছে। বোর্ডের চেয়ারম্যান নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মনোবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রাক্তন অধ্যাপক ড. হামিদা আখতার বেগম।বোর্ডের অন্যান্য সদস্যরা হলেন: কথা সাহিত্যিক সেলিনা হোসেন, বিশিষ্ট সমাজকর্মী খুশি কবির, এন.বি.আর এর সাবেক চেয়ারম্যান ড. মোহাম্মদ আবদুল মজিদ, কেন্দ্রীয় কচি-কাঁচা মেলা’র সভাপতি ড. রওশন আরা ফিরোজ, বেলা এর প্রধান নির্বাহী সৈয়দা রিজওয়ানা হাসান, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উইমেন অ্যান্ড জেন্ডার স্টাডিজ বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. আয়েশা বানু, নর্থ সাউথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বায়োকেমিস্ট্রি এন্ড মাইক্রোবায়োলজি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. আব্দুল খালেক এবং ইন্ডিপেনডেন্ট ইউনিভার্সিটি, বাংলাদেশ (IUBT) এর মিডিয়া ও কমিউনিকেশন বিভাগের প্রধান ড. জাকির হোসেন রাজু (মাননীয় ট্রেজারার, হিউম্যান ডেভেলপমেন্ট ফাউন্ডেশন) ।
